Industrial Lake Restoration Techniques

For lake restoration, there are several chemical options. These treatments are ineffective at reducing the amount of sediment in the lake. Stabilization treatments include the use of metal particles coated with sticky substances to hold sediment in the bottom. These techniques should not be confused for physical efforts. While chemical treatments can't help habitat restoration, they can control the growth of invasive plants and reduce algae blooms.

One of the best benefits of using a restoration agency is that they will do a quality job. Native plants, which can filter watershed pollution, enhance the ecosystem function and take up space where invasive species cannot grow, are an excellent choice. SERV works closely with SCLMP and other stakeholders to improve the area's ecosystem. SERV technicians work together with SCLMP and other stakeholders in order provide the best service possible to clients.

To find the most current literature on lake restore, we used ISI Web of Science, which is a database of scientific publications. A search for lake restoration turned up more than 30 publications per year. The number of publications on the subject also increased with each year. The number of publications containing the keywords "lake* + restoration" and "alum" also increased. These techniques are more common, but we need more information to guide restoration plans.

It is easy to think lake cleaning and restoration can't be done, but it is possible. MPR news recently covered the process and results of two Minnesota water restoration projects. One was in northeastern Minnesota farm country. The other was in First Fulda, in southern Minnesota. While northern lakes have clean water, many of the US's southern lakes have pea-soup-like waters that are full of excess nutrients and dead bullheads. First Fulda Lake, located in southwest Minnesota, was saved thanks to a community effort.

Two types of lakes exist: lakes with abundant plankton or lakes with fewer large herbivorous and zooplankton. These lakes are also known for their dense algal blooms. Anoxia and algal blooms can impact the ecosystem of a lake in such a way. Both toxins can cause further lake degradation by interfering with ecosystem function. A lake that has few game fish will have dense algal blooms, and very few macrophytes. If people don't care about the environment, a lake restoration effort is unlikely to succeed.
